We are excited to announce that both of our NH Farm Future Fund grant applications were successful. The Conservancy’s projects to conserve land for Pete’s Stand in Walpole and Picadilly Farm in Winchester will each receive $10,000, which will help protect forever fertile fields for growing healthy, local produce for many people in our region.

Two Farm Projects

In the case of Pete’s Stand, the funding will allow us to purchase a conservation easement from farmer-owners John and Teresa Janisyzn, the proceeds of which will help them purchase their first farmland parcel after three generations of John’s family exclusively leasing the land they farm. The purchase of a conservation easement on Picadilly Farm, a CSA and produce farm that has been operated by Bruce and Jenny Wooster for 15 years, will complete the protection of the entire property.

Grant Money for the Win

The grant money goes toward project costs and the Conservancy’s perpetual stewardship obligations. In addition, each farm will receive $10,000 directly to be used for technical support with business viability or succession planning. Needless to say, the farmers are thrilled with the opportunity for assistance!

The two farms were selected by the NH Association of Conservation Districts. This is the second year of the NH Farm Future grant program; a total of $100,000 will be awarded between five recipients (the other three farms are located in Brentwood, Lyme, and New Hampton).

Grown out of collaborations fostered by the NH Food Alliance, the Farm Future Fund is privately funded by the You Have Our Trust Fund, with additional support from the NH Charitable Foundation. It is administered by the Cheshire County Conservation District on behalf of the New Hampshire Association of Conservation Districts.

We are still raising funds for both projects, so, if you’d like to support either or make a donation directly to our Farmland Fund, please contact Ryan Owens, executive director: email Ryan@ MonadnockConservancy.org or call 603-357-0600, ext. 103. Thank you!
