Hike & Haul Event, Chamberlain Conservation Area, 6/21/25
Join Monadnock Conservancy members and dedicated volunteers for a hike and haul event at the Chamberlain Conservation Area in Fitzwilliam on Saturday, June 21st from 9AM-1PM!
We’ll be cleaning up the peninsula where, many years ago, an ice shack and its caretaker once lived. Large blocks of ice were cut from Sip Pond and shipped by railroad to Boston. Today, all that remains are beams and associated debris. We want to improve the safety of the peninsula for visitors and the wildlife that live there.
Volunteers should bring a comfortable pair of work gloves. Tools will be provided. The work crew will meet at the Chamberlain Conservation Area parking lot, 128 Turnpike Road, at 9AM and walk along the Cheshire Rail Trail to the Sip Pond spur trail. A small trailer will haul the debris to the parking area.
Volunteers are welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy the views of Sip Pond and Mount Monadnock once the cleanup is finished. Volunteers under 18 should be supervised by parents. Please, no dogs.
We encourage you to sign up in advance by emailing Erin Cabral, Recreation Technician, at erin@, or by calling Janine Marr, Land and Recreation Manager, at 357-0600, ext. 105. Join us for a hike and haul event to improve the safety and beauty of the peninsula on Sip Pond! monadnockconservancy.org
