Sands
Jack Sands donated a conservation easement on 51.7 acres along Windmill Hill Road and Parsons Road in Dublin. The land sits a mile to the east of Mt. Monadnock, which has over 6,000 acres of contiguously protected land. The Sands property sits in between two blocks of already conserved land with 198 acres to the west under conservation easements held by the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (SPNHF) and 197 acres to the southeast also conserved by SPNHF. Creating corridors of conserved land is especially beneficial to wildlife adapting to a warming climate. The property has a diversity of habitat types with over 31 acres of hemlock-hardwood-pine forest, over 16 acres of grassland, 6.5 acres of bog wetland, and 1.4 acres of open water. This mixture of forest, field, riparian areas and wetlands make it an ideal place for local wildlife. The open fields are actively used for sheep grazing by local farmers and the grassland is also used to produce hay. Thank you, Jack, for your generous donation and for working with the Conservancy’s team to find the best solution for this beautiful piece of Dublin!
