Pete's Stand in Walpole

A huge win for local farming in Walpole! Sitting alongside Route 12, Pete’s Stand has operated for three generations and is a beloved and iconic part of the Walpole community. Now, thanks to the Janiszyn family working with the Conservancy, 7.3 acres of highly productive farmland owned and farmed by the Janiszyns are forever conserved. This land will continue to provide Walpole and the region with locally and sustainably grown vegetables.

Conserving this land could not come at a better time. The Route 12 corridor boasts some of the most productive and fertile farmland in the region. However, much of it has disappeared due to commercial development. This conservation easement ensures the property will remain available for farming forever. In addition to the challenges of affording and maintaining productive farmland, the 2023 growing season was especially difficult for local farmers, with extreme rain causing significant flooding. By purchasing an easement on this property, the Monadnock Conservancy is helping to ensure the economic viability of Pete’s Stand.

*Generous funding support for the project came from the New Hampshire Farm Future Fund, the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s Thomas W. Haas Fund, and many private donors.
