Bike Tour: Backroads and Rail Trail

Woman biking along rail trail

Saturday, June 18, 2022 (Rain date: Sunday, June 19, 2022)
9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Meet at Chamberlain Conservation Area/Sip Pond Trailhead, Fitzwilliam

Join us on a challenging, approximately 20-mile bike tour of hills and the south end of the Cheshire Rail Trail. Along the way you will learn a bit about the planned improvements to the rail trail, the history of Sip Pond and the railroad in Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, and efforts by the Monadnock Conservancy to protect the surrounding land.

Climb over 1,000 feet of elevation along gravel/dirt roads to Rockwood Pond, then return on the unimproved rail trail to Sip Pond. A hybrid, mountain, or gravel style bikes with wide tires (width of at least 32 mm or 1-1/4 inches) is required; in other words, no “road” bikes. Dress for the weather and conditions (there could be mud!), and bring your own snacks, water, and bike tools to be able to change a flat tire. Extra water and snacks will be available at a midway rest stop. The pace will be set by the group so we can stay together; plan for a roughly 3-hour tour plus rest breaks. Event is free, but advance registration is required. Questions? Email Richard Pendleton (Richard@MonadnockConservancy.org) or call him at 603-357-0600, ext. 110.

Presented in partnership with the Monadnock Region Rail Trail Collaborative.
