On February 27th, volunteers from M&T Bank in Keene, along with staff and committee members from the Monadnock Conservancy worked on trails and fencing at the Maynard Forest in Gilsum. Long-term research at Maynard has focused on beech control, assessing the impacts of deer browse on tree regeneration, and establishing a grove of hybrid American chestnuts. Together, the crew donated 25 hours to create trails that connect research plots, clear perimeters of fenced regeneration plots, and prune a chestnut tree.

The Monadnock Conservancy is indebted to these enthusiastic volunteers for helping us improve the forest for wildlife habitat and recreation. Additional volunteer opportunities exist at several properties owned by the Conservancy. If you would like to volunteer for one of our management activities, please contact Janine Marr, Land & Recreation Manager (Janine@MonadnocConservancy.org) or Kate Sullivan, Operations & Development Manager (kate@ monadnockconservancy.org), 603-357-0600.
