Who We Are

The 2010-2011 Board of Trustees.

Founded by a group of local residents in 1989, the Monadnock Conservancy is the only land trust dedicated exclusively to the thirty-five towns of the Monadnock Region in southwestern New Hampshire.

To date, the Conservancy has protected over 15,000 acres of the region's wetlands, shoreland, working farms, open fields, productive forests, wildlife habitat, and ridgelines. View a list of our current conservation easements >>

The Conservancy is governed by a fifteen-member Board of Trustees and managed by a small professional staff working from our headquarters in Keene. Volunteer land stewards help us care for our conservation lands. Please contact us about volunteer opportunities.

As a member-based nonprofit organization we work on behalf of the interests and passion of our community. We are supported by more than 600 members, and by businesses, foundations, and earned income. We hope you'll become a member and support the work we do.

In spring 2011 we are working on a wide range of exciting projects, including:

  • Facilitating the protection of farmlands in Jaffrey and Swanzey
  • A partnership to conserve a mile of frontage on the Connecticut River, including some of the most productive farmland in the county
  • Working on land in the “California Brook Natural Area” between Pisgah State Park and West Hill in Keene -- one of the largest undeveloped watersheds in southern New Hampshire
  • Responding to the growing number of requests to accept land or easements protecting drinking water supply, riparian lands, wildlife habitat, productive forests and farms, historic and scenic areas, and recreational lands

We are proud to be an accredited member of the national Land Trust Alliance.
