MONADNOCK CONSERVANCY CELEBRATES
17 YEARS OF LAND CONSERVATION

( KEENE)Celebrating 17 years of land conservation efforts in the Monadnock Region, the Monadnock Conservancy will hold its 2006 Annual Meeting on August 26, 2006, at Stonewall Farm in Keene. The Conservancy will invite members, guests, and friends to learn about conservation goals for the Monadnock Region, hear updates on California Brook Conservation Area, Phase I, and take field trips to view protected properties.

Sylvia Bates, a former consultant advisor to the Conservancy, will deliver the keynote address. Now the Director of Standards at the Land Trust Alliance (LTA), Sylvia will discuss national trends in land conservation and how they affect activities in New Hampshire.

Non-members are welcome to attend. For more information or to register for the meeting, call 1-603-357-0600 or respond to info@monadnockconservancy.org.

Registration with a members’ reception and exhibits begins at 9:15 a.m.; the business meeting with awards presentations, guest speakers, and keynote address will run from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.; and optional field trips to the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve, California Brook, and the Page Mountain Meadow will begin around 11:45. More details on field trips will be provided at the meeting. Wear hiking boots/shoes and bring water and snacks. Be aware trips will go rain or shine.

Three awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting: the Abe Wolfe Land Protection Award is presented to an individual, group, or organization that has shown outstanding leadership in land protection in the Monadnock Region; the Philip Faulkner award recognizes an organization, group, or individual that achieves significant conservation of natural resources in the community or region through a collaborative process that engages multiple stakeholders in the process; and the Founders’ Award is presented to an individual who has contributed substantially to the success, stability, and capabilities of the Conservancy over a sustained period of time. Award winners will be announced at the meeting.

Founded in 1989, the Monadnock Conservancy is a non-profit land conservation organization that serves 35 towns in southwestern New Hampshire. Its mission is to identify, promote, and actively seek protection of significant natural, aesthetic, and historic resources in the Monadnock Region; and to monitor and enforce the protection of lands in the trust.
