MONADNOCK CONSERVANCY RECEIVES
PRESIDENT’S COMMUNITY PARTNER AWARD
( KEENE) The Monadnock Conservancy received the 2009 President’s Community Partner Award in recognition of its work with Antioch University New England. The Community Partner Award, presented by Campus Compact, recognizes an organization that has enhanced the quality of life in the community in meaningful and measurable ways and engaged in the development of sustained, reciprocal partnerships with a college or university.
The Monadnock Community Conservation Partnership (MCCP), a coalition of conservation, planning, and community outreach and education organizations, seeks to help towns throughout the Monadnock Region build their capacity to identify and protect important natural resources and other special places. To accomplish this mission, the MCCP works with town conservation volunteers to develop community-specific approaches to address town needs. General assistance available to all towns includes:
- Broadening community understanding about what land conservation is and how it works;
- Building consensus about the value and benefits of land conservation to the community;
- Engaging broad public participation to identify land conservation priorities based on an understanding of natural and cultural resources;
- Developing implementation strategies that lead to the protection of priority lands;
- Training conservation volunteers to serve as local resources to landowners interested in conserving their lands and to town boards and commissions.
Founded in 1989, the Monadnock Conservancy is a non-profit land conservation organization that serves 35 towns in southwestern New Hampshire. Its mission is to identify, promote, and actively seek protection of significant natural, aesthetic, and historic resources in the Monadnock Region; and to monitor and enforce the protection of lands in the trust.
