MONADNOCK CONSERVANCY ANNOUNCES LEADERSHIP TRANSITION

Richard Ober Moving on to NH Charitable Foundation

(KEENE) – Richard Ober of Dublin will step down as executive director of the Monadnock Conservancy on December 28 to accept a position as vice president for civic leadership at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation in Concord. Ober has been with the Conservancy since 2001.

The Board of Trustees has initiated an executive search and will appoint a new executive director early in 2008. In the meantime, Rick Church of Nelson, a highly respected retired Markem executive and former Conservancy board president, will serve as interim director.

John Kieley, president of the Board of Trustees, said “The Conservancy has grown dramatically under Dick’s leadership to become one of the most active and able land trusts of our size in the country. With a staff of six and a very involved Board of Trustees, we have protected more than 10,000 acres and have many new projects underway. We are very excited for Dick in his new position and glad that he will continue to serve in the nonprofit sector in New Hampshire.”

The Conservancy is finishing up its most successful year ever, completing more than 30 new conservation projects covering some 3,000 acres and leading the effort to save Temple Mountain as a state reservation. The organization expects to have an even busier year in 2008 and will make a significant announcement in January about its strategic plan, “Monadnock Tomorrow.”

“The last six years have been the most fulfilling of my career,” Ober said. “I am deeply grateful to the Conservancy’s board, staff, and members for a truly remarkable partnership.” Ober will remain on the Conservancy’s Board of Advisors and will continue to work on land use and environmental issues, among many others, in his position with the Charitable Foundation. He and his family will continue to live in Dublin.

The Monadnock Conservancy is the regional land trust for the 35 towns of southwestern New Hampshire. Supported by more than 1,000 individuals, families, organizations, and businesses, the Conservancy is a non-profit membership-based organization.
